When to seek immediate help
For difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe facial injury or uncontrolled bleeding, call 911 or go to an emergency department. For tooth pain, a broken tooth, swelling or a lost filling or crown, call a dentist promptly. If our office is closed or cannot see you promptly, seek another available urgent dental provider.
A knocked-out tooth
A knocked-out permanent tooth needs immediate dental attention. Handle it by the crown, not the root, and keep it moist in milk while seeking care. Do not put a baby tooth back into its socket. If you are unsure which type of tooth it is, ask a dental professional immediately.
A cracked tooth or toothache
Rinse gently with warm water. A cold compress on the outside of the face may help with swelling. Do not place aspirin directly on your gums or tooth. These measures do not replace a dental assessment.
Before you call
Tell the team when the problem started, whether there is swelling or bleeding, and whether an injury occurred. Appointment availability depends on the day and the care needed.
